I have the honour to report, in accordance with section 4(12) of the Deportation Ordinance, 1912, as amended by the Deportation Ordinances of 1913 and 1914, that I have with the advice of the Executive Council banished from the Colony for a period of ten years Chan Iu-shing, born in Hongkong of parents neither of whom was a British subject. Chan Iu-shing has not ob- -tained a certificate of his British birth, and he is not register- -ed in a British Consulate in China as a person entitled to British protection in China.

Chan Iu-shing was for some years in the service of this Government; and in 1910, when holding a post as Interpreter in the Police Department, he was arrested on a charge of receiving a bribe from a brothel-keeper. He was released on bail of £500, and he absconded. He subsequently returned to the Colony, and was re- -arrested in October last. The Police Magistrate committed him to take his trial at the Criminal Sessions; but it was found that the original file dealing with his case had been tampered with, an exhibit having been extracted, and the Chinese witnesses on behalf of the Crow were not forthcoming; and the Attorney-General accordingly advised that the case should not be proceeded with.
